The IBV is a technological centre that studies the behavior of the human body and its interaction with products, environments and services. Founded in 1976, the Institute is currently coordinated under the agreement of the Valencian Institute for Small and Medium Industry (IMPIVA) and the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia (UPV).
With the aim to improve competitiveness among the business sector, the IBV promotes people’s well-being through the combination of knowledge in areas such as biomechanics, ergonomics and emotional engineering, and its application to diverse sectors, such as: Physical activities and sports; Automotive and transport; Habitats and construction; Clothing; Elderly people and people with disabilities; Health and Safety; Healthcare technology and Tourism and Leisure.
The IBV offers a complete range of services and products to companies interested in differentiating themselves in particular markets, combining economic and social interests in order to reach high levels of industrial competitiveness: Research and technological development; Technological advice; Testing and certification; Biomechanical Valuation; User-friendly design; Technological applications; Training and Innovative business initiatives.
IBV is a Spanish Research and Development Center .The IBV is a European reference center in sports and physical activity, specifically in sport surface research, standard tests and homologation. Among their main activities it is included the development of expert applications and testing equipment for footwear and sports sectors among others. It will be the partner responsible of the development of the new expert maintenance application for enlarging the service life of the product and the validation analysis of the pilot implementation results. The majority of IBV research/development activities is focused on working with SMEs, either helping them to get their products to market or assisting them in the development of new products and services. Their relations with key target groups and relevant actors of the sector worldwide (FIFA, UEFA, ESTO, ISSS, IHF, ITF…) will be crucial for the dissemination and replication of the action.
- Efficient project management
- Development of the new expert maintenance application
- Enlarging the service life of the artificial turf
- Validation analysis of the pilot implementation results
- Dissemination of the action

ISA Sport is a subsidiary of TNO Bedrijven and NOC*NSF (the Dutch Olympic Committee), active both nationally and internationally, as a leading institute on sports surfaces. The core business of ISA Sport is research (internationally well-known laboratory at the National Sports Centre Papendal) and testing of sports facilities and equipment, mainly focusing on research and testing of artificial grass soccer fields.
ISA Sport is an institution that has been providing this kind of services for decades, as a result of which it is currently one of the best service providers of this kind in the world. ISA Sport is committed to ensure that the facilities of sport remain of good quality and are durable and safe.
Key characteristics of the products/services offered:
- independent research and testing to assure that facilities and equipment meet the applicable (inter)national standards
- accreditations by Dutch sports associations and FIFA, UEFA, FIH, IAAF, ITF and ITTF
- accredited according to ISO 9001:2000 and ISO/IEC 17025.
Our role in the ECOTURF project is to analyze the loss of properties happening due to use and establish the end of the service life of artificial turf pitches. Our work will be contributing to the development of the new expert maintenance application, and leading the development of the new in situ separation tool.
Main function of the tool will be separating on site the artificial turf waste into components like quartz sand, rubber granulate, fine rubber granulate, fiber and backing.
- The main objective is the environmental benefit where the actions taken in this project should lead to, e.g. reuse of materials, higher durability of currently installed fields and materials. This all should lead to less waste material, less fuel usage, less pollution, less emission.

RECIPNEU produces recycled rubber polymers (powder and granulate form), from end of life tires, since 2000.
In RECIPNEU the implemented technology is the Cryogenic Process. It is an innovative and high-tech technology able to produce high quality cryogenic rubber granulates and powders, demanded for applications as raw material and final products.
RECIPNEU’s experience as rubber infill granulates supplier for synthetic turf, and its knowledge about the properties of rubber infill, are very important for the consecution of the ECOTURF project objectives.
In the lifecycle of rubber infill of ECOTURF Project RECIPNEU is responsible for rubber recycling and also for a complete laboratorial rubber characterization; for the separation of the polymeric carpet components, by the cryogenic process, it is expected to achieve as far as possible clean separated polymeric materials, to be used as (recycled) secondary raw materials in other industrial uses. RECIPNEU’s participation will also be crucial, contributing with some European clients for the pilot implementation of these prototype materials.
- RECIPNEU has the objective to develop appropriate cryogenic recycling systems concerning the different polymeric components of the artificial turf (rubber infill, carpet components, and e-layers), originating secondary raw materials for other industries or, depending of the quality, recycled rubber infill use. As a final objective RECIPNEU will contribute to divert from landfills the recycled synthetic turf materials.

During last years, Poligras has been involved in research activities related to environmental issues. One of them was to revalue the large amounts of artificial turf waste currently moved to landfill. AT present we have developed a laboratory separation process, which is mainly based on grinding all materials that make up an artificial turf field inits end of life. With this grinding a mixture of components is obtained. This components after several actions are separated into sand, SBR and PE. In the current laboratory process backing is discarded.
- Implement in situ the process mentioned above
